Where Confidence Begins.

A two-day intensive that gives you the language, tools and foundation to engage with your finances — and with the deeper NGA curriculum — no matter where you’re starting from.

Who It’s For.

Many members come to NGA without a background in finance — and that’s exactly who this is for. The Financial Literacy Intensive is built for anyone who feels behind, unprepared, or unfamiliar with the language of money, and wants a genuine foundation before stepping into the wider programme.

There’s no assumed knowledge, no jargon left unexplained, and no question too basic. It’s a starting point designed to meet you where you are, and give you the confidence to engage — properly and fully — with everything that follows.

What It Covers.

Delivered over two focused days, the Intensive distils the essentials of financial fluency into a format built for genuine understanding, not information overload.

Day One

Foundations

Financial Wellbeing — Understanding your relationship with money and building healthy financial habits.

Cashflow Fundamentals – Budgeting — Practical tools for managing income, expenses and saving with intention.

Tax Basics — Why we pay tax, how it works, and your obligations as an employee or a business owner.

Debt — Managing debt — good and bad — and using it wisely.

Day Two

Building Blocks of Wealth

Investments Overview — An introduction to the core asset classes and how they fit together.

Introduction to Equities — The basics of shares, markets and how companies raise capital.

Introduction to Property & Real Estate — Understanding property as an asset class, from ownership through to investment.

Introduction to Superannuation — How super works, why it matters, and how to make it work for you.

Structures — An introduction to individuals, trusts, companies and partnerships, and how each is used.

Philanthropy — Exploring giving as part of a considered financial life.

Reading Financial Statements — Making sense of balance sheets, profit & loss statements and cashflows.

Estate Planning — First steps in understanding how wealth is protected and passed on.

The Format

Small group, high engagement, no lectures. The Intensive is delivered alongside a peer group in the same position as you, combining clear teaching with practical, real-world application — so concepts land, rather than just being covered.

By the end of the two days, you’ll have the vocabulary, the confidence and the context to engage meaningfully with your finances, and to step into the broader NGA curriculum on equal footing with your peers.

Availability.

The Financial Literacy Intensive is included for all NGA members — there’s no additional cost, and no obligation to attend. It’s there for members who feel they’d benefit from a stronger foundation before engaging with the deeper curriculum, and entirely optional for those who don’t.

If that sounds like you, it’s simply a matter of letting your convenor know.
